About Elephant Rock
Elephant Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bodega Bay, California, where the bottom falls through depths of 0 to 45 feet. The rock structure holds aggregate rockfish, which peak from May through October, alongside lingcod that run strong from July into February. Anglers work the reef with bait fishing using squid, cut bait, or live anchovies for rockfish, while jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits targets lingcod along the same broken bottom. California halibut move through the area from April through August and respond to drift fishing with live anchovies or live shiner perch over the sandier margins. Chinook and coho salmon pass the exposed outer edge in the warmer months, with trolling anchovies, spoons, and hoochies the standard approach as they transit the drop-off.
