About Pelican Point
Pelican Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bodega Bay, California, where the bottom falls from around 260 to 660 feet. The steep rock structure holds Lingcod through its July-to-February peak and supports aggregate Rockfish from May into October, while Chinook Salmon move through from April to August and Coho follow from June into November. California Halibut work the shallower edges from April to August, with White Seabass, leopard shark, bat ray, and squid rounding out the catch. Anglers troll anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers for salmon over the drop, then switch to jigging metal jigs and swimbaits or working live bait for Lingcod tight to the rock. Rockfish come on squid, shrimp flies, and cut bait fished near the bottom, and halibut respond to drift fishing with live anchovies along the deeper margins.
