About Long Rock
Long Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls from roughly 330 feet to 1,300 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their April to September peak, alongside Lingcod that run strongest February to March and August to October, and Black Rockfish that show best in March and again from May through August. Chinook come to trolling with anchovies, herring, trolling spoons, and hoochies, with mooching whole anchovies or cut herring working as a supporting approach over the deeper water. Lingcod respond to jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs across the rock, while Black Rockfish take jigs and swimbaits or bait-fished squid and shrimp flies. Blue Rockfish also work the drop-off, where bait fishing shrimp flies, squid strips, and anchovies produces along the harder structure.
