The South West Seal Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising in 40 to 55 feet of water off Crescent City, exposed to open outer-coast conditions. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from February through March and again from August through October, alongside Canary, Copper, and Quillback rockfish, Pacific halibut, and Chinook salmon that run strongest from April into September. Jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs works the rock and its edges for lingcod, while live rockfish, sanddabs, or squid on the bottom supports the same effort. Chinook come to trolled anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies in the water column above the pinnacle, with mooching whole anchovies or cut herring as a slower alternative. The shallow crown and hard rock bottom concentrate fish tight to the structure, so working the pinnacle's upcurrent face pays off through the tide.
