About South West Seal Rock
South West Seal Rock is an outer-exposed drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls through 40 to 55 feet of water along a structured edge. The rock draws Lingcod, which peak from February through March and again from August through October, alongside Rockfish that hold from May into September and Chinook Salmon running April through September. Anglers work the drop-off for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or turn to live rockfish, sanddabs, and squid on the same structure. Rockfish come off the bottom on shrimp flies, swimbaits, squid strips, and metal jigs, with jigging and drift fishing filling in over the broken terrain. For Chinook, trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, and hoochies covers the water above the drop, while mooching whole anchovies or cut herring works the same column.
