About Star Rock
Star Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls from about 330 feet to 1,300 feet. Chinook Salmon run the upper water column here from April through September, drawing anglers who troll anchovies, herring, spoons, and hoochies or work the same schools by mooching whole anchovies and cut herring. The rock structure holds Lingcod, which peak from February to March and again from August to October and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, as well as live rockfish, sanddabs, or squid fished on the bottom. Aggregate Rockfish stack over the same terrain from May through September, taken by bottom fishing with shrimp flies, squid strips, swimbaits, and metal jigs. The steep contour and rock bottom also support Coho Salmon, Pacific Halibut, Sablefish, Blue Shark, and Pacific Bonito across the deeper water.
