About Castle Rock
Castle Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Crescent City, California, where rock structure rises through water running 15 to 40 feet deep. The spot holds Chinook Salmon through their April to September peak, alongside Coho Salmon, Pacific Halibut, Canary Rockfish, and Blue Shark, with Lingcod concentrating in February and March and again from August through October. Anglers work Chinook by trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies across the exposed rock, and switch to mooching whole anchovies or cut herring when a slower presentation suits the conditions. For Lingcod, jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs over the pinnacle produces, while live rockfish, sanddabs, or squid and bait rigs with whole squid, octopus, or herring cover the same structure. The rock bottom and shallow relief keep fish tight to the pinnacle, so presentations that track the contour of the structure stay in the strike zone longest.
