About Steamboat Rock
Steamboat Rock is a rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls through 25 to 50 feet of mid-exposure water. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from February through March and again from August through October, alongside aggregate rockfish that run strongest May through September and Chinook Salmon through the April to September stretch. Anglers work the rocky edges for lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop live rockfish and squid tight to the structure. Rockfish come off the same bottom on shrimp flies, squid strips, and metal jigs, with jigging and drift fishing covering the water between hangs. Chinook are taken on the troll with anchovies, herring, and trolling spoons over the deeper edge of the drop.
