About Blank Rock

Blank Rock is a mid-exposure rocky drop-off off Eureka, California, where the bottom falls through the 25 to 45 foot range. Chinook Salmon run here from May through September and Coho Salmon hold from May into November, both taken by trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, and hoochies, with mooching cut-plug herring as a supporting approach. Lingcod fishing peaks January through April and again in September, worked over the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or with live greenling and rockfish. Pacific Halibut move through from March to August and respond to drift fishing with live baitfish, herring, and squid along the base of the drop. Rockfish, including Canary Rockfish, stack on the structure from May through September, where jigging metal jigs and shrimp flies covers the broken rock.
