Long Beach Light is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Newport Beach, California, rising through depths of 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds California Halibut, which peak from March through May, alongside Lingcod that turn on from September into January and Barred Sand Bass that concentrate from May through July. California Sheephead work the rock in two windows, March through April and again July through September. Anglers targeting halibut drift live anchovies, sardines, or smelt across the sand-and-rock edges, while lingcod respond to vertical jigging with heavy iron jigs and swimbaits worked over the pinnacle itself. Sheephead come from bottom fishing squid strips and live shrimp tight to the rock, and sand bass fall to drift fishing with anchovies and squid strips across the deeper structure.
