Inspiration Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Santa Monica, California, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. The rock structure holds Calico Bass, which peak from April through August, alongside California Sheephead peaking April through September and Barred Sand Bass strongest in March and again from June through August. Rockfish hold along the deeper structure year-round, with California Halibut moving through from March into July and Leopard Shark active April through August. Anglers work the drop-off for Rockfish with a dropper loop baited with squid, cut mackerel, or shrimp flies, while Sheephead take bottom-fished squid, cut mackerel, or crab tight to the rock. Calico Bass respond to swimbaits and soft plastic grubs fished across the structure, and California Halibut come to drift fishing with live anchovies or sardines over the shallower reaches.
