Cabrillo Beach Reef sits inside the protected waters of LA Harbor at San Pedro, a rocky kelp reef running from about 10 to 40 feet deep. The reef holds Calico Bass through their April–August peak and California Sheephead from April into September, with White Seabass moving through March–July and Yellowtail feeding along the kelp May–October. California and Pacific Halibut work the sandy edges in spring, with peaks running February–July across the two species. Anglers target the Calico Bass with swimbaits, soft plastic grubs, and leadhead jigs worked through the rock and kelp, while Sheephead come to bottom fishing with live shrimp, squid, or cut mackerel. Drifting live anchovies and sardines over the sand covers both halibut through the spring months.
