About Long Point

Long Point sits off Santa Monica, where depths range from 30 to 200 feet across kelp and hard-bottom structure. Yellowtail move through from May to October and respond to live bait such as sardines, mackerel, and anchovies, with yo-yo jigging on heavy iron working the deeper water. White Seabass peak from March to July and take live squid and sardines, while California Halibut and Barred Sand Bass hold from March through summer and come to drift fishing with live anchovies and sardines over the sand. California Sheephead work the rocky bottom from April to September on live shrimp, squid, and crab fished tight to structure. Leopard Shark run from April to August and take squid or mackerel soaked on the bottom in the shallower depths.
