Pelican Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Newport Beach, California, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. The rock structure holds White Seabass, which peak from February through June, alongside California Halibut in the March-to-May window and Barred Sand Bass building from May into July. Calico Bass work the structure from April through August, while Leopard Shark move in over the summer months from June to August. White Seabass respond to live bait fishing with live squid, sardines, or mackerel, and drop to slow-pitch jigging with heavy metal or knife jigs along the deeper edges. Halibut come on drifting live bait such as live anchovies and sardines, and the sand bass take drift-fished baits and leadhead swimbaits worked near the rock.
