Fort Point sits at the mouth of San Francisco Bay, an outer-exposed rocky drop-off where the bottom falls away through depths of 80 to 200 feet. Chinook salmon move through from April to September, drawing anglers who work the water column by trolling whole anchovy, spoons, hoochies, and flashers, or by mooching anchovy and sardine along the edges. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and peak from February to March and again from August to October, taken by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs down on the structure, with live sanddabs and squid as an alternative. Striped bass follow the currents from June to October, hitting deep-diving plugs and swimbaits on the troll or metal jigs and soft plastics worked near the bottom. The mix of hard structure, strong tidal flow, and steep depth also holds rockfish, sheephead, bat ray, and leopard shark across the season.
