Point Avisadero sits along the San Francisco waterfront, where a rocky drop-off falls from 80 to 200 feet into mid-exposure water. Chinook Salmon run strong from April through September, with California Halibut peaking April through August and Striped Bass moving in from June through October. Lingcod hold on the rocky structure with peaks in February through March, again from August through October, and in December, while Blue and Black Rockfish stack up over the same reef through the spring and summer months. The depth and rock favor trolling whole anchovy or spoons for Chinook, drift fishing live anchovies for halibut, and jigging metal jigs or swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish along the edge. Working the drop-off's break, where the rock gives way to deeper water, keeps baits in front of fish holding on the structure.
