Bit Rock is an outer-exposed sand flat off Los Angeles, California, sitting in 30 to 60 feet of water where open bottom holds a mix of gamefish through the year. Calico Bass, California Sheephead, and White Seabass all peak from late winter into spring, while Barred Sand Bass hold through a longer window from March into August and California Halibut run strong March through June. On the sand, drift fishing with live anchovies, live sardines, or swimbaits covers ground for halibut, and drift fishing with live anchovies, live squid, or frozen squid works the flat for barred sand bass. Calico bass respond to flylining live anchovies or sardines along any structure breaking up the sand, and leopard sharks, peaking February through April, come to bait soaked on the bottom with squid or mackerel chunks. White seabass move through on live squid, live sardines, or live mackerel drifted through the same depth range, with bonito and mackerel available as steady secondary targets.
