The 9-Mile Bank is an outer, exposed drop-off off Santa Monica, California, where a mixed bottom falls away through depths of roughly 300 to 1,200 feet. The structure holds Rockfish year-round and draws White Seabass and California Halibut from March through July, while Yellowtail run from May into October and Pacific Bonito show from May through September. Rockfish come off the deeper mixed bottom on a dropper loop baited with squid or cut mackerel, with vertical jigging over the same structure. Yellowtail take live sardines and mackerel along the bank edge, and White Seabass respond to live squid worked through the drop. For halibut, drifting live anchovies and sardines across the transition zones covers both the Pacific and California fish during their spring peaks.
