About Dumfoundling Bay

Dumfoundling Bay is an inner, protected bay in the Fort Lauderdale area with a sand bottom and depths of 5 to 15 feet. Common Snook peak from May through July, while Gray Snapper peak in June and July and Yellowtail Snapper run strongest from April through July. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June, King Mackerel peak from January through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the species list. For snook, live bait drifting with live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet or live pinfish is the dominant approach across the sand flats, with swimbaits, topwater plugs and jerkbaits as casting options. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait or squid in the deeper sections of the bay.
