About McCall Sand Flats
McCall Sand Flats is an outer, exposed sand flat in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters near Fort Myers, with depths running 20 to 35 feet. Red drum peak here from August through October, and live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or cut mullet produces steadily across the open sand. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April, when anglers work the flat with live shrimp or paddle tail grubs on jig heads. Common snook follow from April through June and take live pilchards and soft plastic jerkbaits. From November through March, sheepshead hold near the bottom and fall to bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas.
