About Everglades Island Barge Reef
Everglades Island Barge Reef is an artificial reef built around a sunken barge off Jupiter, Florida, within the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Snapper draw the most attention here, with gray snapper peaking May through July, mutton snapper peaking April through June, and yellowtail snapper peaking May through August. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, squid, or cut bait works the barge structure for gray and mutton snapper, while yellowtail respond to chumming and flatlining with cut ballyhoo or silversides. Common snook also peak May through July and take live pilchards, live mullet, and live shrimp on a drift past the reef. King mackerel move through in March and April and again in October and November, when slow trolling live blue runners or live goggle eyes near the structure targets them, and crevalle jack round out the mix.
