About Ratican Reef
Ratican Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off Jupiter, Florida, where the structure holds bottom species and draws pelagics passing along the Southeast Florida coast. Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack hold tight to the reef, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut ballyhoo, or squid dropped close to the structure. King Mackerel move through in March–April and again in October–November, and slow trolling live goggle eyes or blue runners along the reef's edges is the dominant approach. Dorado peak from March through June and fall to trolled rigged ballyhoo and feathers in the open water around the site. Wahoo arrive in April and again from September through December, when high-speed trolling with bullet-head lures and diving plugs covers ground over and around the reef.
