About Bakers Haulover Inlet

Bakers Haulover Inlet is an exposed tidal corridor on the Miami coastline, where a sand-bottomed channel running 10 to 25 feet deep funnels water between the inshore waters and the open Atlantic. Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July, Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, and King Mackerel take over from November through March, with Crevalle Jack also working the channel. Snook anglers rely on live bait drifting with live pilchards, live mullet, or live shrimp through the moving water of the corridor, while bucktail jigs and soft plastic swimbaits cover the same sand edges. Snapper fishing centers on bottom fishing with cut bait, squid, and live pilchards along the sand bottom, and yellowtail respond to chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows. In the cooler months, slow trolling live blue runners, live goggle eyes, and live ballyhoo targets King Mackerel along the outer, exposed end of the inlet.
