About Boca Chita Key

Boca Chita Key is an outer, exposed rock drop-off off Miami, where the bottom falls away from 10 to 35 feet along a hard edge in Florida's southeast Atlantic waters. Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July, Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, and King Mackerel take over from November through March, with Crevalle Jack also working the area. Snapper anglers bottom fish the rock with cut bait, live shrimp, and live pilchards for Gray Snapper and with live ballyhoo and squid for Mutton Snapper. Yellowtail Snapper respond to chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows along the drop. Snook hold on the edge for live bait drifting with pilchards, mullet, and pinfish, while winter King Mackerel fall to slow trolling with live goggle eyes and blue runners along the deeper water.
