About Bowles Bank

Bowles Bank is an exposed sand flat off Miami, Florida, lying in 15 to 35 feet of water within the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Tarpon move across the bank from March through May, and Common Snook peak from May through July. Florida Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, and Bluefish round out the species mix over the open sand. Live bait drifting is the dominant approach for both snook and tarpon here, with live pilchards, live shrimp, and live mullet worked naturally across the flat. Anglers also cast soft plastic swimbaits and bucktail jigs through the deeper edges, and tarpon flies and crab flies draw strikes from rolling fish during the spring run.
