About Eagle Scout Reef
Eagle Scout Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Atlantic State Waters off Miami, where placed structure concentrates reef fish and draws pelagic predators. Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, while Yellowtail Snapper, Gray Snapper, and Common Snook all hit their stride from May through July, and Crevalle Jack round out the resident mix. King Mackerel take over the cooler months, peaking from November through March, when slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards around the reef's edges produces strikes. Over the structure itself, bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid targets Mutton and Gray Snapper holding tight to the reef. Yellowtail Snapper respond to chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows, which pulls them up off the structure and into the slick.
