About Featherbed Bank
Featherbed Bank is an exposed sand flat off Miami, Florida, where open water sweeps across a broad bottom holding 10 to 15 feet of water. Bonefish peak here from March through May and again in September and October, while permit and tarpon share the same March-to-May spring window. Common snook move onto the bank from May through July, and crevalle jack add steady action alongside the marquee species. The uniform sand bottom suits sight casting for bonefish with live shrimp, shrimp-tipped jigs, or small bucktail jigs, and live crabs or live shrimp fished as live bait draw strikes from cruising permit. For tarpon and snook, live bait drifting with live mullet or live pilchards across the exposed edges of the flat covers ground efficiently in this depth range.
