About Triumph Reef

Triumph Reef is an outer, exposed sand flat off Miami in Florida's southeastern Atlantic state waters, with depths running 10 to 15 feet. Tarpon move through from March to May, and Common Snook peak from May to July, while Florida Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, and Bluefish round out the species list. Live bait drifting is the dominant approach for both snook and tarpon, using live pilchards, live shrimp, or live mullet worked across the open sand bottom. For snook, jigging with bucktail jigs or soft plastic swimbaits covers the shallow flat efficiently, and casting topwater plugs or soft plastic jerkbaits adds a supporting option. Tarpon anglers also cast plugs and shrimp imitation lures or present tarpon flies and crab flies to fish crossing the exposed sand.
