About Bayou Texar
Bayou Texar is a protected, mud-bottomed corridor of water winding through Pensacola, Florida, with depths running 10 to 15 feet along its length. Red Drum peak here from September through October, and inshore casting with gold spoons, paddletail jigheads, or soft plastic jerkbaits works the soft bottom, while live shrimp under a popping cork draws strikes along the bayou edges. Sheepshead take over from January through March and respond to bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp. Gray Snapper peak from May through August on live shrimp, live pinfish, or cut bait fished near the bottom, and Spanish Mackerel move through from April to October, when casting metal jigs, gotcha plugs, or small spoons covers the open water of the corridor. Common Snook also hold in these sheltered inner waters, which makes Bayou Texar a year-round inshore option.
