About Town Point
Town Point is a sand-bottom drop-off near Pensacola in the Florida Panhandle, where exposed shallows fall away across a depth range of 0 to 15 feet. Red Drum peak in September and October and hold along the edge of the drop, where inshore casting with jigheads with paddletails, gold spoons, or topwater plugs covers the transition from shallow sand to deeper water. Sheepshead take over from January through March, and bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp works best tight to the slope. Gray Snapper fill the May through August window and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, or cut bait. Spanish Mackerel run from April through October across the open, exposed water, where trolling small spoons or casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs intercepts feeding fish, and Common Snook also appear on the target list.
