About Joseph Meek Reef
Joseph Meek Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Pensacola, part of the Panhandle Region's network of placed structure. Gag Grouper hold tight to the reef and peak from October through December, when bottom fishing with live pinfish or live cigar minnows draws them out of the structure. Spring brings Cobia from March through June, and anglers sight cast bucktail jigs or live eels to fish cruising near the reef. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp or cut bait, while Sheepshead take over from January through March on fiddler crabs and sand fleas worked close to the structure. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel both run April through October, with trolling small spoons for Spanish and slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden for kings around the reef's edges.
