About John Finelli Eagle Scout Reef
John Finelli Eagle Scout Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Pensacola, part of the Panhandle Region's network of placed structure. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel both peak from April through October, while Cobia move through from March to June and Gray Snapper hold on the reef from May to August. Sheepshead take over in the cooler months, peaking January through March, and Gag Grouper peak from October through December. Bottom fishing tight to the structure with live shrimp or fiddler crabs produces Sheepshead and Gray Snapper, and live pinfish or live cigar minnows work for Gag Grouper. Around the reef, slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden targets King Mackerel, and trolling small spoons or straw rigs covers Spanish Mackerel.
