About Navarre Pier Reef

Navarre Pier Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters of the Panhandle Region near Pensacola, Florida, where placed structure draws both migratory pelagics and resident bottom fish. Spring opens with cobia peaking March through June, while king mackerel and Spanish mackerel hold over the reef from April through October. Bottom species shift through the calendar: gray snapper peak May through August, gag grouper October through December, and sheepshead January through March. Anglers sight cast bucktail jigs, live eels, or live pinfish to cruising cobia, and slow troll live cigar minnows or live menhaden for king mackerel, with small spoons and straw rigs trolled for Spanish mackerel. Over the reef structure itself, bottom fishing with live pinfish or frozen sardines targets gag grouper, and fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp take sheepshead and gray snapper.
