About Old Navy Cove
Old Navy Cove is a protected inner bay in Pensacola, Florida, with a sand bottom that runs 10 to 25 feet deep. Red drum peak here in September and October, sheepshead take over from January through March, gray snapper hold from May through August, and Spanish mackerel run from April through October, with common snook also on the target list. Inshore casting with jigheads with paddletails, gold spoons, and soft plastic jerkbaits covers the sand bottom for red drum, while popping cork fishing with live shrimp offers a slower presentation. Bottom fishing in the deeper end of the cove draws sheepshead on fiddler crabs and sand fleas and gray snapper on live shrimp and live pinfish. Spanish mackerel respond to trolling small spoons and straw rigs or to casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs through the open water.
