About Beville Point

Beville Point is a sand-bottomed drop-off on the outer, exposed edge of the Tampa Bay region near Sarasota, where the bottom falls away sharply from the surrounding flats. Common Snook peak here from May through July, and Gray Snapper hold along the ledge from June through August, with Sheepshead rounding out the bottom-oriented species. Red Drum move through in strongest numbers in September and October, while Spanish Mackerel run the edge in two windows, March through May and again September through November. Anglers work the drop-off with live bait fishing for snook using live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp, and they target snapper with bottom fishing over the sand using live shrimp, cut sardines, or squid. When mackerel push in, casting small spoons and jigs along the edge covers water quickly, and chumming with live pilchards draws both mackerel and snapper up off the bottom.
