About Gooseneck Pass Hump
Gooseneck Pass Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from 25 to 35 feet of water off St. Petersburg, Florida, in the exposed outer reaches of the Tampa Bay region. Gray Snapper hold tight to the rock from May through August, while Sheepshead stack on the hump from January through March and Red Drum move through in August and September. Common Snook peak from April through June, and Spanish Mackerel push across the structure in two runs, March through May and again September through October, with Spotted Seatrout showing in March and April and returning in October and November. Bottom fishing with live shrimp or knocker rigs puts baits directly on the pinnacle for snapper, and live fiddler crabs or sand fleas dropped to the rock target Sheepshead. When mackerel are up in the water column, casting small spoons and metal jigs over the hump covers the open water above the structure.
