About Egmont Channel Hump
Egmont Channel Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from 25 to 45 feet of water on the outer, exposed edge of the Tampa Bay region off Sarasota, Florida. Common Snook hold around the structure with a peak from May through July, while Gray Snapper peak from June through August and Red Drum move through in September and October. Spanish Mackerel run the area in two windows, March through May and again from September through November, and Sheepshead round out the species list on the rock. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, cut sardines, or squid works the hard bottom for Gray Snapper, and chumming with live pilchards or frozen chum blocks draws fish up off the pinnacle. Snook respond to live bait fishing with live pinfish or threadfin herring, while Spanish Mackerel fall to small spoons and jigs cast over the hump.
