About 3 Mile North Bridge Reef
3 Mile North Bridge Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters of the Tampa Bay Region, located off St. Petersburg. The structure draws pelagic species in spring and fall, with Spanish Mackerel peaking March through May and again in September and October, King Mackerel running March through May and August through October, and Cobia showing March through April and September through October. Bottom species round out the calendar, as Sheepshead peak January through March, Gray Snapper hold on the reef from May through August, and Gag Grouper move in from October through December. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach for the reef dwellers, using live fiddler crabs and sand fleas for Sheepshead, live shrimp and knocker rigs for Gray Snapper, and live pinfish or live grunts for Gag Grouper. Over the top of the structure, anglers cast small spoons and metal jigs to Spanish Mackerel and slow troll live threadfin herring or live blue runners for King Mackerel.
