About FWC-1 Reef
FWC-1 Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf state waters of the Tampa Bay region off St. Petersburg, Florida. Gag Grouper peak here from October through December, and anglers target them by bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, or cut threadfin herring dropped tight to the structure. Gray Snapper hold on the reef from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or knocker rigs, with chumming drawing them up off the bottom. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel move through in spring and again in early fall, when casting small spoons and metal jigs works for Spanish and slow trolling live threadfin herring or live blue runners works for kings. Cobia show in March–April and September–October and fall to sight casting with live crabs or bucktail jigs, while Sheepshead take over in January through March on live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp fished on the bottom.
