About Johns Pass
Johns Pass is a jetty-lined inlet in St. Petersburg, Florida, within the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead peak from January through March and gray snapper from May through August. Common snook run strongest from April through June, red drum peak in August and September, and Spanish mackerel move through in two windows, March to May and September to October. Along the jetty rocks, anglers bottom fish live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp for sheepshead, and drop live pilchards and knocker rigs for gray snapper holding tight to the structure. Snook and red drum respond to live scaled sardines, live pinfish, and live shrimp worked along the rocks. Spanish mackerel hit small spoons and metal jigs cast into the moving water off the jetty tips.
