About Manbirtee Key
Manbirtee Key is a protected sand flat in the Tampa Bay region near St. Petersburg, with water running 5 to 10 feet deep across its inner, sheltered bottom. Spotted seatrout peak here in March through April and again in October through November, when drifting the flat with soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads or live shrimp under popping corks covers the most ground. Common snook move through from April into June, and live bait fishing with scaled sardines, pinfish, or threadfin herring draws strikes along the sandy edges. Red drum peak in August and September, holding on the flat for live shrimp, live pilchards, or cut mullet, while calm, clear days open up sight fishing with weedless spoons and soft plastic jerkbaits. Sheepshead take over from January through March, and bottom fishing with live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets them through the cooler months.
