About Manbirtee Key Hump
Manbirtee Key Hump is an exposed rock pinnacle off St. Petersburg in the Tampa Bay region, rising from surrounding bottom in 45 to 75 feet of water. Gray Snapper anchor the summer fishery from May through August, while Sheepshead take over the hard bottom from January through March. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or knocker rigs produces snapper tight to the rock, and chumming with frozen chum blocks or cut sardines draws them up off the structure. Sheepshead respond to live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and shrimp-tipped jigs worked directly on the pinnacle. Spanish Mackerel push over the hump from March through May and again in September and October, when casting small spoons and metal jigs or live bait chumming with scaled sardines keeps them close, and Red Drum (August–September), Common Snook (April–June), and Spotted Seatrout (March–April, October–November) round out the seasonal mix.
