About Mullet Key Channel Hump

Mullet Key Channel Hump is a mixed-bottom pinnacle rising from 20 to 35 feet of water off St. Petersburg, sitting in an exposed outer stretch of the Tampa Bay region near the mouth of the bay. Gray Snapper hold tight to the hump from May through August, while Sheepshead stack on the structure from January through March. Spotted Seatrout move through in March–April and again in October–November, Common Snook peak from April through June, Red Drum arrive in August and September, and Spanish Mackerel run in March–May and September–October. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or knocker rigs works the pinnacle for snapper, and live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or shrimp-tipped jigs dropped onto the mixed bottom take Sheepshead. When Spanish Mackerel push over the hump, casting small spoons and metal jigs or live bait chumming with live scaled sardines brings them within range.
