About South Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier
The South Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier extends from the southern approach of the Sunshine Skyway into the Tampa Bay Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, giving anglers access to open bay water from a fixed pier. Spanish mackerel lead the spring and fall action, peaking March through May and again in September and October, when casting small spoons, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs works the moving schools. Sheepshead dominate the winter months from January through March, and bottom fishing with live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp tight to the pier pilings targets these structure-oriented fish. Gray snapper hold along the same structure from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, and knocker rigs. Common snook peak April through June, red drum run strongest in August and September, and spotted seatrout move through in March–April and October–November, with live bait fishing using live pinfish, live scaled sardines, and live shrimp covering all three.
