About Treasure Island Reef
Treasure Island Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off St. Petersburg, Florida, within the Tampa Bay region's state waters. Sheepshead hold on the reef structure from January through March, and bottom fishing with live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets them tight to the rubble. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or cut bait. Pelagic action builds in spring and fall: King Mackerel peak March–May and August–October and are taken by slow trolling live threadfin herring or scaled sardines. Spanish Mackerel run during the same windows, Cobia show March–April and September–October, and Gag Grouper close out the year from October through December with bottom fishing using live pinfish or live grunts.
