About Barnacle Rock

Barnacle Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Brookings, Oregon, where the bottom plunges from roughly 330 to 1,310 feet. The structure draws Chinook and Coho Salmon through their May–Oct peak, while Pacific Halibut hold from Apr–Aug and Lingcod move onto the rock from Jan–Mar. Trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, spoons, and flashers with hoochies works the upper column for salmon, with mooching cut-plug herring or whole anchovies as a slower alternative. Drift fishing herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus over the deeper edges targets halibut, and jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs pulls Lingcod off the hard bottom. Canary and Yellowtail Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Pacific Whiting, and Spiny Dogfish share the same rocky relief.
