Black Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Gold Beach, Oregon, where the bottom falls through 45 to 75 feet of water. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through August, alongside Lingcod that run strongest in January and February and a mix of Black and Blue Rockfish that concentrate through the summer months. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish, while drift fishing herring, salmon bellies, or squid across the drop-off targets halibut holding along the deeper edges. Chinook Salmon move through from July into September and Coho from June through October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, spoons, and flashers over the same exposed water. The steep rock and exposed setting keep bait and predators stacked along the contour where the depth changes quickly.
