Deer Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Gold Beach, Oregon, where the bottom falls through 20 to 120 feet of water. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from July through September and Coho Salmon from June into October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, anchovy, spoons, and flashers over the deeper edges. The rock also concentrates bottomfish, with Black Rockfish peaking June through August and Lingcod strongest in January and February, worked with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits along the ledges. Pacific Halibut move through from March into August and respond to drift fishing with herring, squid, and salmon bellies over the sand-and-rock transitions. Cabezon and Blue Rockfish round out the mix on jigs across the shallower rock during spring and summer.
