Cape Sebastian sits off the outer exposed coast near Gold Beach, Oregon, where a rocky drop-off falls through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon run strongest from July through September and Coho Salmon from June through October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, whole anchovy, or trolling spoons behind flashers, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring as a supporting approach. The rock structure holds Black Rockfish and Blue Rockfish through the summer months, June to August, worked with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits over the drop. Pacific Halibut move across the deeper edges from March through August, targeted by drift fishing herring, salmon bellies, or squid, while Lingcod come to jigged metal jigs and swimbaits during the winter peak in January and February. The exposed outer position and steep rock make depth control central to fishing the varied layers of this structure.
