Rogue Reef is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Gold Beach, Oregon, rising through 30 to 40 feet of water where the structure concentrates bottomfish and passing salmon. Lingcod hold on the rock through the winter peak in January and February, while Black Rockfish stack up from June through August and Blue Rockfish run strong in March and April and again through midsummer. Anglers work the pinnacle with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish, and Cabezon come off the same rock to jigs and cut squid from spring into fall. Chinook Salmon move through from July into September and Coho from June into October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, trolling spoons, and flashers over and around the structure. The exposed position and rock bottom reward tight, vertical presentations held close to the pinnacle rather than long drifts across open ground.
